Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about Relaxer Retouch.

We typically recommend scheduling a Relaxer Retouch every 8 to 12 weeks depending on your new growth rate, hair texture, and overall condition. Your stylist will evaluate breakage risk and tailor timing to maintain health and consistent straightness.

When performed correctly, a retouch applies relaxer only to new growth, avoiding previously relaxed ends. Our stylists use careful application and protective techniques to minimize overlap and reduce the risk of damage or breakage.

Appointments usually take between 60 and 90 minutes depending on hair length, density, and styling choices. This includes consultation, shampoo, precise new-growth application, processing, neutralizing, and finishing with a professional style and leave-in conditioner.

Color and chemical services should be planned carefully. If you color, inform your stylist—timing may vary. Often we recommend waiting at least two weeks between relaxer and color services, or performing a strand test to ensure hair integrity.

Follow gentle sulfate-free shampoos, regular deep conditioning, and use a leave-in or moisturizing oil to maintain elasticity. Avoid excessive heat for a few days and schedule protein treatments as recommended by your stylist to preserve strength.

A strand test is recommended if your hair history is unknown, previously damaged, or recently colored. It helps determine processing time and product choice to prevent over-processing and ensure safe, predictable results.
